About
I'm a Front End Web Developer living in Austin, TX. I've been developing for the web for 15+ years and I believe that websites should be fast and easy to use, no matter who you are, where you live, or what device you own. I enjoy designing and developing websites and web apps. Taking in client/product feedback, researching new tools, working out the little puzzles that coding provides. Above all, I like to create fun, easily understandable experiences for users.
Why the focus on Accessibility?
Accessible websites are better websites. But in terms of FE development, the industry still misses the mark pretty consistently. We should try to be an exception to that trend and ensure our sites are usable for all. I love to browse using keyboard navigation, so its a moment of delight for me when a website supports that. I don't have an eyesight or motor impairment, but if I can still navigate using the keyboard, it improves my experience. Ensuring an interface is usable for a specific browsing method doesn't just improve the UX for one group of people, it improves it for everyone.
Why the focus on performance?
Its not a secret that the web is pretty bloated. Unnecessary scripts and large photos slow websites down and cause users money when they have to download all that information. Where possible, be intentional with the data you send to the user. Not every user lives in the Wealthy Western Web (that link is old by internet standards, but has always stuck in my head). At the end of the day, its all about providing a good experience to users.
